The Wind Haunt (4 to 8)
Comments (9) Go to top of page
An extremely cool map from Iron Hammer that follows on nicely from his previous map. The texturing seems old skool and brought back memories of playing GeN's Hyperalgesie (gendm2) and ztn's Show No Mercy (ztndm2). The architecture however isn't and makes the texture set look relatively fresh and new. Wind tunnels should come as no surprise given the maps title and are pretty insane. I suppose they could be seen as a long-winded method of transport and teleporters could have been used, but then it would be no fun at all :). Most of them are simple walk in affairs mounted in the floors or walls. It all adds to the rather quirky nature of the map.

The layout is heavily interconnected and appears to be the work of a deranged mind, not that that is a bad thing, it just means trying to get your bearings is a little hard to begin with. There are some amazingly vertical sections of the map from which you can see acres of playing area. Obvious examples are from the perched MH and Quad positions that sit in alcoves at the very top of their selected atriums. Play is rip-snortingly fast even with a modest player load due to the hopping and jumping down through the various floors as you follow/run away from your opponents.
