DBDM9 (2 - 4 FFA)

DBDM9 is a large 1 atrium map that sports Dave Bulows own custom textures which look very nice if a little un-Quakelike. The design reminds me of a churches main hall with various tunnels and rooms off to each side. Unfortunately the main atriums large size works against gameplay in most cases as combat distances are just too large, but around the edges of the map the gameplay soups itself up and becomes a lot more enjoyable...

Weapons and ammo are both very sparse and it feels like you are running a marathon to get anywhere most of the time. There is only one green armour on the map so the rocket launcher really is the power weapon here as long as you can get close enough to use it effectively. Another niggle is that the pent is way to easy to obtain, just sitting at the end of a hallway that anyone can go and grab, if it had been where the Quad damage is (on a ledge) then it would have been much better (yes you can get the Quad and the pent at the same time...).

This map could have been good but the scale is just too large for a Quake deathmatch map and the items are too far apart and the powerups are poorly placed. A shame really as it doesn't look that bad...

I only just noticed that 2 of my maps had been reviewed here. Man these are my old shitty ones :P. I couldnt agree more with either of them. I've learned a lot since creating these two (DBDM9Q1 and Temple of Osiris).
